Ajakaja Magazines 2005 and later

Several issues of a biannual publication by The Alberta Estonia Heritage Society AEHS

Detailed History

The Alberta Estonia Heritage Society AEHS was formed in 2005 with the amalgamation of several regional societies, including the Medicine Valley Estonian Society. Co editors Dave Kill and Eda Matiisen McClung gathered articles from AEHS members and associated individuals over the course of about 15 + years. It has become an increasingly valuable resource as a record of Estonian families who emigrated from Estonia to Alberta during the last of the1800's and on through the war years as invaliding forces forced residents to flee. In many cases the land owners expected to return after the war was over, however politically it did not go well for Estonia and many found themselves searching for a new country for permanent residence. Many came to Canada, the prairies and of course the Medicine Valley and the surrounding district around Eckville.
